Privacy & confidentiality Policy

COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Your Counsellor will keep written records on the content of your sessions for seven (7) years. These records are locked in a secure location, and can only be accessed by The Life Balance employees. You have the right to review these records and/or receive a copy during that time. This is done in accordance with BCCSW guidelines and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).


CONFIDENTIALITY

Please be assured that the things you discuss with your Counsellor are private and will remain confidential unless:

  • You give permission to tell other people who may be able to help, such as other professionals or your loved ones.
  • Your Counsellor believes that you may physically hurt yourself or someone else.
  • You have given your Counsellor critical information about child or elder neglect or abuse.
  • Your Counsellor is legally required by the court to release information.
